Allow Creator Opt-Out for VRM Export
complete
Nikki Fuego
I believe creators should have an option when publishing a collection to opt-out of the allowance of VRM export from the backpack. This is a great feature but some creators may not like the idea of freely allowing anyone and everyone to export their wearables as VRMs to do whatever they please with.
I understand this is possible with downloading the assets as GLBs, but GLBs aren't as widely compatible in avatar marketplaces as VRMs are.
With the emerging platforms that are VRM compatible and allowing free distribution of VRMs, it takes a lot of power and control away from the Creator. It could be a simple toggle to allow or not allow VRM export.

Hi Nikki, we shaped this initiative and it is a candidate for Cycle 6. Please note that we had just started Cycle 5, so it will take some weeks. We will know by the end of March and I will announce it in the next All Hands.

Terms of Use state that buying the wearable transfer IP ownership. So the Platform Terms of Use would need to be updated.

Hi Nikki Fuego, thanks for your contribution.
I see your point and it is fair. The only thing is that it is not as simple as that. For instance, what would happen if a user wanted to download the VRM while using a wearable without permission to download it? Will it download without that wearable? what should be the fallback? naked or a base wearable? should we block the ability to download the VRM completely if that is the case?
Besides needing development on the Client (not only the Builder), it might also affect the Marketplace as buyers could argue that they need to know this before buying.
I will take this to Shape it and analyze it with the team.

Nicolas - Product Lead @ Decentraland Foundation: Hey Nico, thanks for the reply. I think it could be a simple icon added, similar to the hide icon, that has a line through VRM indicating that item is not available for VRM export. If a user has an equipped item that is not exportable, the button should be non-clickable until they remove that item from their avatar. This could be an icon on the marketplace as well. Just like smart wearable indicator.
Just some ideas. :)
