Security! 


1. Optimism Superchain rely on Ethereum security through Optimistic rollups 
(Optimistic Rollups work by bundling many transactions together and then posting them as a single batch to the Ethereum mainnet)

Each transaction on an Optimism Stack chain is ultimately settled on Ethereum, meaning Ethereum’s consensus and security protect it



2. Current Polygon PoS: Polygon PoS chain uses a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism that is secured by its own validator network rather than Ethereum’s direct security. Although Polygon is also secured by Ethereum (via checkpointing), it relies on its independent validators for everyday transactions 

If something happens to Optimism (Network or DAO collapses) other SuperChains builded on Optimism Stack is technically capable of operating independently of Optimism’s governance. Because each chain is built on the Optimism Stack, they can continue running on Ethereum’s security, even without direct involvement from Optimism



Example 1:

Let’s say Optimism, the organization, stops maintaining the Optimism Stack. Since the stack is open-source, other developers or the community can step in to maintain or improve it 
and then a group of developers decides to take over by creating a new team or “foundation” to maintain the Optimism Stack (SUPERCHAIN). They update the code, fix bugs, or add new features that keep Superchain chains secure and compatible with Ethereum.
The new team could propose updates and improvements, and Superchain chains like Base or a Decentraland chain could adopt them. This way, the Superchain would continue to function, even without Optimism’s direct support.

Example 2:

If Optimism Collective can no longer operate , other Superchains (e.g., Base, Zora, or Decentraland) could form a Superchain Governance Alliance. This alliance could make decisions about security updates, interoperability standards, or code changes - without relying on Optimism
